José Raúl Cancio-Bigas

José Raúl Cancio-Bigas joined CC&S in 2008 and is the Chair of its Litigation Department. Mr. Cancio-Bigas has over 40 years of experience in civil and commercial litigation in state and federal courts, as well as local and federal administrative agencies. His practice is focused in general commercial, contracts and family law litigation in the local and federal courts, as well as local and federal administrative agencies. He has been a bankruptcy practitioner since 1975 to the present, representing debtors and creditors. He has lectured on bankruptcy law and practice in programs presented by the Institute of Continued Legal Education of the Puerto Rico Bar Association from 1981 to 1984 and in programs organized by the judges of the Bankruptcy Court, the Wholesalers Chamber of Commerce and several banking institutions.

Previously, he was a Partner in the Law Firm of Rodríguez-Ramón Peña and Cancio, from 1981 to 1985; a Partner in the Law Firm of Ortiz Muria & Cancio, from 1985 to 1987; Partner in the Law Firm of Cancio Rodríguez & Sanabria, from 1987 to 2002; and of José Raúl Cancio Bigas Law Offices, from 2002 to February 2008.
