Rodney W. Colón-Ortiz

Rodney W. Colón-Ortiz joined CC&S in 2002 and has been a partner since 2007. He is a member of the firm’s Corporate and Litigation Departments. Prior to joining CC&S, Mr. Colón worked in private practice and as judicial clerk to Hon. Senior Juan M. Pérez Jiménez.

Mr. Colón regularly participates in real estate transactions for residential, commercial and hospitality developments. He drafts and authorizes the execution of numerous deeds and public instruments regarding the constitution of horizontal property regimes, right-of-ways for public use, restrictive covenants of use, easements, superficiary rights, trusts and estates, urban development segregations, and transfer of real property. In addition, Mr. Colón advises clients in areas regarding land use, zoning matters and urban planning. He drafts and negotiates loan and financing documents in connection with commercial real estate developments and other matters for the major leading commercial banks of Puerto Rico. He also supervises the residential mortgage closings division of the firm, reviews all mortgage closing files and forms of mortgage instruments and approves each case for closing. In connection therewith, Mr. Colón reviews collateral packages for each closing to confirm compliance with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA and HUD requirements. He also represents buyers, sellers and lenders in real estate transactions, stock and asset acquisitions, stock redemptions, leveraged buy-outs, mergers, and joint ventures in a broad range of industries, including hospitality, real estate, energy and healthcare. He represents lenders and borrowers in numerous corporate and commercial banking transactions, including participant’s trades and workouts of distressed loans, leveraged buy-outs and project financings. Mr. Colón participates in local and federal litigation regarding construction contracts, real estate development issues, landlord matters and land use issues.
